Producer, The Bunker

Podmasters is expanding and we are looking for a hungry and hard-working producer to join us to work on one of our biggest shows, The Bunker.

The Bunker is the daily need-to-know podcast on news and politics from Westminster to the wider world. Every morning we deliver tight 20-25 minute explainers, interviews and backgrounders on the most essential topics in domestic and international politics, economics, climate and society – all concisely formatted to fit busy listeners’ commute, school run or morning exercise.

The producer is the engine room of a podcast at Podmasters. They generate the bulk of ideas, guiding the tone and direction of the podcast to ensure it hits the highest possible standards and reaches the widest possible audience. Producers mix journalistic acumen with a commercial mindset to create must-listen daily audio for a politics-hungry audience aged 25-45.

You will report to the Managing Editor and focus on delivering The Bunker every day, working alongside our other producers, audio editors, the social media team and presenters. The topics are varied and require exemplary organisational ability – we need people who know how to hit tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality of output.

You’ll be expected to understand the tone and vibe of The Bunker – our model and approach is well established but we produce a large volume of material every day, week and month. Your job will be to make our news and politics output compelling and relevant, whilst understanding what drives audiences to come back for more.

Every producer at Podmasters works on more than one show. You may need to fill in on another podcast as and when required, or work with some of our commercial clients. You will also help guide our junior producers and freelancers, setting an example to the team on how to deliver excellent work. Work experience is vital to help you hit the ground running but we value a can-do attitude, flexibility and hard work as even more important.

What we’re looking for:

  • Someone with 3+ years of experience, either on producing a podcast or as a journalist. You must have proven ability to deliver ideas, guests, scripts and packages quickly and efficiently.

  • Passion for the news, the media and everything that surrounds it.

  • A flair for headline writing and puns (we’re famous for it).

  • An organised and unflappable character. You might be working on several projects at the same time, so calmness under pressure is key. This can be everything from scheduling panelists to scheduling social posts.

  • Experience in audio is a plus but not necessary. A passion for podcasts certainly is.

About us:

  • Modern, attractive co-working space close to the Victoria, Piccadilly, London Overground and Great Northern Lines, as well as walking distance from Highbury Field
